The Literacy Council Presents Wine, Wit & Words

A FUNd-raising Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups

May 4, 2012
Starting at 7:00 p.m.
Veteran's Hall
801 Grand Ave

  • Form a team of four and pay $100 each to register (a total of $400/team).
  • Promote your team’s businesses in fun ways. Teams and the audience are encouraged to dress up in costume. Lots of chances to win prizes!
  • Invite your friends – at $40/person – to join in the merriment and bee available to toss you a lifeline.
  • Should you bee-come bee-fuddled by a bee-deviling word...for a bee-fittingly nominal fee... you may attempt to: sting your competitors by bee-queathing it to them, buzz a friend in the audience to spell the word on your bee-half, even bee-dazzle the judges with a bee-nign bribe (to bee-stow upon The Literacy Council, of course).

Tutor Training August 18, 2012 and August 25, 2012.

What is Tutor Training?

The Literacy Council of San Luis Obispo County offers two-session workshops designed for certification as a volunteer tutor.  Previous teaching experience is not necessary.  All that is needed is the desire to help others.  You will learn strategies to teach basic speaking, reading and writing skills in Learning Centers located throughout the county.

Each training is TWO Saturdays. They begin at 9:00am and end at 3:30pm. They are held at 1264 Higuera Street, Suite 102, San Luis Obispo. Call 541-4219 for more information. $25.00 enrollment fee now required.

The Literacy Council

The Literacy Council for San Luis Obispo County is a nonprofit organization committed to assisting adult learners and their families in the development of English language communication skills.

We recruit and prepare volunteers as tutors, who in turn provide individual and group instruction to learners in reading, writing, speaking and basic number skills. The primary goal is to promote individual awareness and involvement in the literacy process, while furthering the ability of learners to function well in the community.

The success of The Literacy Council's learning centers depends entirely on volunteer effort!

There are Learning Centers throughout the Central Coast, which provide their Learners and Tutors with books, learning materials, and a friendly learning environment.
